We arrived in Mexico last week and a couple of days ago we went to a gorgeous beach with the family. I sat in the sand and admired the distinct turquoise blues of the ocean, with my toes dipping in the crystal clear waters, feeling so lucky that this is right in my backyard.
The thing is, last time I was in Mexico, I missed the mountains. I wanted to hike and climb and do all the things I love to do in Canada. I repeated over and over how much I prefer the mountains over the beach and I got desperate for change. And it happened a couple of weeks ago too when we were getting ready to leave France. I was looking so ahead to what life would be like back in Mexico that I wasn’t enjoying my time where I was.
But now I’m determined to see it from a different perspective. To take off whatever thoughts and perspectives were blocking my view before and begin to truly enjoy my place.
Here is how I plan to do it:
Mindset first - catch myself having negative thoughts about where I am and change them to something postitive
Be mindful - take moments out of the day to appreciate little things (check @dydestinationyou on IGTV for more tips)
Stop searching for happiness - and start learning to enjoy whatever emotion I experience. That means I can be ok with being sad or mad or frustrated because that’s all part of the experience and know that emotions come and go
Be more active - I love being outside and it’s easy to get stuck in my house. I’m going to look for some sort of physical activity that I enjoy (zumba, yoga, biking, swim etc)
Show gratitude - at the end of the day I will take a moment to say 3 things that I am thankful for that day
Favorite part - Similar to gratitude, I’ll say one thing I liked about my day even if I had a really bad day, I’ll recognize something
